OMPH Catholic Charismatic Renewal Group Celebrates its 37th Anniversary

Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) Group celebrated its 37th anniversary on 7 December with a Praise and Worship and Thanksgiving Mass, followed by a fellowship dinner that was attended by its members and fellow parishioners.

Fr. Joseph Stephen CSsR, OMPH Parish Priest and CCR Spiritual Director who celebrated the Mass, spoke on the importance of the prayer group and ministry to Christian spirituality.

“After 37 years the church must be more than thankful to the members for their fundamental commitment and sharing of their spirituality."

“When CCR was started in 1979 by Fr. Peter Chin CSsR it was just a small group of members. It grew, shrunk a little, struggled and found life again. It has seen its members come and go."

“Fr. Peter Chin is now based in Toronto, Canada, but this group has been able to sustain its interest and given life that kept it going."

Fr Joe described God as being the ‘lubricant’ that keeps the members going, and the "glue" that binds them together with a healthy team spirit."

“The prayer community always encounters problems. However with God as the lubricant, He will glue the members to serve like fertile soil - capable to move forward to evangelize and proclaim the good news and keep going the Christian way.”

CCR Chairperson Kenna Lau who came to office two months earlier said the group decided to have a Thanksgiving Mass to create awareness of the groups’ activity.

Lau said their weekly Wednesday sessions had an attendance of 25-30 members regularly.

The Thanksgiving Mass was the last session for the year and would start again on Wednesday January 4 2017.

The activities planned for next year include 3 healing Masses and a ‘Life in the Spirit Seminar’ scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2017.

The Thanksgiving Mass saw an attendance of over 100 parishioners.

Amongst them were visitors Carmelita and Arokiadass Anthonysamy from Church of Divine Mercy, Penang, who drove down just for the occasion.
