What Is RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a religious programme to welcome and assist adults who would like to be initiated into the Catholic Church by Christian Baptism or for preparation of the Sacrament of Confirmation. It usually begins in the 3rd quarter of the year and culminates at Easter with Baptism. The RCIA at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ipoh is conducted in English, Mandarin, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia. The choice to become a Catholic rests between you and God.
How does it work?
It is a journey made in the company of facilitators, sponsors and priests with the support of the church community. It facilitates faith discovery through teaching, sharing, prayers, communal worship, fellowship and other forms of experiential exercises.
How long is the journey?
We meet for approximately for 2 hours with different days for each language groups and the whole programme lasts for 9 months culminating with Baptism at Easter Vigil.
Is there any course fee?
It is free of charge.
Who can participate?
There are generally 3 categories of people that participate in RCIA:
1. All individuals who are not baptized and who express a desire to explore the Catholic faith.
2. Individuals who have been baptized in another Christian denomination and who wish to explore membership into the Catholic Church, and
3. Catholics who have been baptised but who have not received the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation.
Am I obligated to become a Catholic if I go through the RCIA process?
There is no obligation for participants to become members of the Catholic Church. Anyone seeking information about the Catholic faith is welcome to attend our sessions.
