Lenten Talk entitled "HOLY SPIRIT IN THE SEASON OF LENT”

by Rev. Fr. Joseph Stephen, C.Ss.R.,

Parish Priest, Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Ipoh.

A formative talk entitled “HOLY SPIRIT IN THE SEASON OF LENT”, organised by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal [CCR] group, was given by Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Stephen.

The session started at 8pm with a short praise and worship.  Over 100 parishioners attended the talk. Fr Joseph Stephen started by explaining what Lent is about in our Catholic context and from where it originated.  He continued to explain that apart from the normal Lenten practices of almsgiving, fasting and prayer, the Church teaches us to reflect on its twofold character of a) Recalling baptism and b) preparing for baptism. This is when we reflect upon how and why we accept baptism and whether we truly believe in the person of Jesus and witnessing Him.  At the same time, we also welcome into our community those to be baptised.

He quoted
Luke 4:1-2 where Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness after his baptism and Galatians 5:13-26 which is about a life in Christ led by the Holy Spirit.  In order to change, we must first want it, then we must let go and let God.

The purpose of the Holy Spirit in the season of Lent is to transform those who are open to Him and longing for transformation so that we can radiate the light and the joy of God.

The one-hour session closed with a thanksgiving hymn entitled “
Thank You for the cross O Lord”.
